Cats on the Red

Catfish'n Memories

World Class Cats

A Testimonial from Jim Gregory ...

I am sorry for the postponement of this, but I figured better late than never! I wanted to write you a quick letter to thank you for allowing my father, brother and I to experience the most enjoyable fishing trip we have ever had.
Over the years, my brother, father and I have fished everything from trophy pike in northern Manitoba, to walleye in southern Ontario, including bass and sunnies in Nebraska and catfish about everywhere in between. The trip we had at your resort, “CATS ON THE RED” was by far the most enjoyable to date! Words alone cannot express how much enjoyment we had on this trip, it was absolutely fantastic. Not only was the fishing outstanding, the politeness and demeanor you and your guides displayed was first class as well!
To be completely honest with you, we all found it difficult to fish to fish back home and this was for the duration of the summer. Absolutely nothing compared to our fishing adventure that took place on those four amazing days on the beautiful Red River. Not only have I never hooked into such big fish, the battle that ensued with each and every fish was amazing!
We have recommended this trip to anyone and everyone who is looking for the most enjoyable/thrilling trip of their lifetime.
I hope the rest of your season went well and we all look foreword to seeing you again in ’07!

A Testimonial from a Winnipeg Businessman Paul ...

Our first time experience catching those powerful channel cats was absolutely incredible, we had a great time! Neither one of us have gone after channel cats before. We’re both very avid fishermen however primary species have always been walleye, trout, northern etc. Channel cats are something else ... I’m hooked! Expect to see more of me and our clients in the future.
What an incredibly great way to spend the day and discuss business. 18 holes of golf at Larter's, a nice lunch, then a ten minute drive down the road to Cats on the Red.
It was an awesome experience to catch and release 20 "Big Cats" (9 of which were trophy's) in a couple of hours and so close to home!
Thanks ever so much, see you again!

A Testimonial British Style by Stuart Watts ...

I have just arrived back to the U.K. after a family holiday in Canada. I was in Winnipeg to celebrate the marriage of my wife’s niece Lisa to Bruce. In the days leading up to the wedding I realized that my presence was somewhat surplus to requirements and looked to indulge my greatest passion in life, angling.
Some years ago on British television I watched as Stu McKay owner of Cats on The Red Resort played host to England’s Legendary fishing Guru John Wilson. Their target and feature fish was none other than the Legendary Red River channel catfish.
I contacted Stu at his resort and arranged for a couple of days of guided fishing in pursuit of channel cats. My guide was Rob Anderson and he showed me the most fantastic two days of hectic sport!
Now I have fished in a number of venues around the world: Florida, Egypt, Spain, Ireland the St. Lawerence River, but nowhere I have fished comes close by comparison to the Red River’s channel cats in terms of numbers, size and fighting qualities……
In just two days fishing I personally landed “65” of these tenacious creatures! The largest which ironically was my first measured 37 inches and weighed an impressive 31 pounds. The fish we caught on these two days averaged approximately 19 pounds a piece, many of which were well into the twenty pound plus range. Each and every one of these heavy weights gave me all I could handle. In fact my hands were actually blistered after day one which made repeating the feat on the second day somewhat painful and a bit more difficult, but wild horses could have dragged me away from that kind of action!
My experience of fishing is that the reality rarely lives up to the expectation. In the case of the Red River the total fishing experience far exceeded that of my wildest expectations!
Thanks ever so kindly Stu and Rob. I will most certainly be making future treks to the Red River and of course to visit my wife’s family. Thanks for the memories!
